Mythological Book Launch & Goodreads Giveaway!

Last Saturday I celebrated the launch of my new book Theseus & the Mother-in-Law and other Myths & Legends with a gathering of close friends and family in my hometown of Leigh-on-Sea.

Once again my plate-smashingly brilliant mother did all the hard work and laid on a magnificent Greek feast, which included such Greek culinary delights as moussaka (naturally), spanakopita, galaktoboureko, cherry cheesecake, three kinds of chocolate cake (we cater for all!), two types of flan, dips, salad and lots and lots of ouzo. The Mighty Heracles – new excerpt from my book!

My new book re-tells the stories of all the Greek heroes and their adventures in Ancient Greece. The greatest of all the Greek heroes was arguably the mighty Heracles – note, his true name is not HERCULES – that was the Roman variation – the Greek name is HERACLES – so I thought that I would share a little snippet from my chapter on the mightiest warrior of all.

Hope you like it 🙂 Read more

The Mother-in-Law Illustration by Twisted Dredz

The front cover of a book is arguably even more important than the content inside – particularly when it comes to the promotional stages. Some people can be completely turned off reading a book if the cover doesn’t appeal to them.

With that in mind, I was determined to create a really interesting front cover for my new book Theseus & the Mother-in-Law and Other Myths & Legends. My first literary outing Greek Expectations: The Last Moussaka Standing, was part memoir, so it seemed right that I put myself on the front cover in what I hope was a relatively amusing pose (!) My Big Fat Greek Mythological Family Tree

My new book is a tale of myth and legend, in fact, it re-tells all the myths and legends of Ancient Greece…well, not quite all of them, but ALL the ones that matter!

In my research, (yes believe it or not, my father wasn’t the sole source of my Greek information), I found out many interesting facts about the Gods and Greek heroes that I hadn’t known. For example, the number twelve features heavily in the Greek myths: twelve Olympian Gods, twelve Titans, twelve labours of Heracles (note the spelling!)

BUT did you know that there were in fact FOURTEEN gods who were considered at some point or another, to be the original OLYMPIAN GODS of Mount Olympus? It seems that the Greeks couldn’t quite decide who they favoured more. Read more

So Drum Roll please…. Read more
